Welcome to Sandenburg Castle

Looking for a movie location featuring a white castle? Welcome to Sandenburg Castle, an enchanting historic hideaway in the heart of The Netherlands!

Sandenburg Estate

Surrounded by 600 hectares of natural beauty, Sandenburg Estate is one of the largest family estates in The Netherlands. Sandenburg Castle, with its white walls and towers, is situated in the estate’s private enclosure. The enclosure also houses three other whitewashed buildings: the Orangery, the Coach House and the Gate House. Peacocks and pheasants freely walk the gardens surrounding these buildings. Sandenburg Castle is inhabited by the Count and Countess Van Lynden van Sandenburg.

Sandenburg Estate was bought by the Van Lynden van Sandenburg family in 1792. The white castle and other buildings in the enclosure were built in the 1860’s. The estate is however much older: it is first mentioned in a text dating from the fourteenth century. During that time Sandenburg was a defensive tower, built to protect the archdiocese of Utrecht from invasions from the neighbouring Duchy of Gelderland. The tower of Sandenburg Castle, as it stands today, thus has its roots in the fourteenth century.

Sandenburg Castle and its Orangery were used as movie location for several Dutch feature films and TV productions. Sandenburg can be seen in the comedy ‘Bon Bini Holland 2’ (2018), the romantic comedy ‘Just Say Yes’ (2021), and the historic drama ‘De Oost’ (2021). The spacious, seven meter high Orangery can also be used as holding when filming at Sandenburg.
